George Earl Hunter

George Earl Hunter passed away March 26, 2022. George was born in West Terre Haute on February 20, 1931, and was raised by his parents: George and Helen Fulmer-Hunter. He graduated from Valley High School and later continued his education at Indiana State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
George married Phyllis Dru Witt on June 20, 1952, and they were married for over 68 years. After getting married, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed near Sendai, Japan after World War II. He was a faithful member of the Saint Mark United Church of Christ, where he held multiple positions in the consistory, helped maintain the facilities of the church/Merom Conference Center, and loved to make the congregation coffee each Sunday. He worked most of his career at Ethyl VisQueen, which he maintained long term relationships with numerous coworkers. He loved playing sports, traveling (visiting 32 countries), family gatherings, camping, swimming, playing pool, and watching his favorite sports teams play: St. Louis Cardinals and IU Basketball.
He is survived by his Brother, Gene Hunter (Helen) and his five children: John Hunter; Anne Hunter; Sarah (David) Gossett-Casey, Nathan, Travis, and Jason; Frank (Amy) Hunter-Sawyer and Jeffrey, George (Cindy) Hunter-Hailey. Proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Phyllis.
There will be a graveside ceremony held at the Roselawn Cemetery beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday May 6, 2022, which will be officiated by Pastor Steve Moore. Afterward, there will be a Celebration of Life held at St. Mark United Church of Christ (475 S Fruitridge Ave) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thanks to all the staff at the SouthernCare Hospice organization for their attentive care provided to our Father. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
