Barbara Jean Smith 91, of Terre Haute passed away June 26, 2024 in her residence
surrounded by family. Barbara was born October 11, 1932 to Paul and Hannah
Akers. She married David Smith December of 1952. She loved baking and with
that she learned to decorate cakes, which also lead to catering weddings. Later
returning to the work force she took a job at Unique Graphics/ Standard Register,
where she retired from after 20+ years. Not being ready to stay at home she took a
part time position with Wolfes Auto Auction and also doing demos at Sams Club.
Barbara was a member of women of the Moose and 50+ years in the Eastern Star.
Barbara is survived by a son Paul W. Akers (RoseAnn), and daughters Cheryl
Smith (Randy), and Nanette Smith (Kent) grandchildren, Ryan Akers (Tammy),
Heather Boney (James), Matt Akers (Chelsea), Chad Coomer (Liz), Cory Coomer
(Melissa), Leslie Gussler, Ashley Martin (Kalvin), Amber Gussler (Brandon),
Autumn Smith (Jonathon), great grandchildren, Ryan, Ava, Madelyn (Miguel),
Maecie, Trinity, Mariah (Parker) (Mariah also helped take care of her.), Chad,
AnnaDawn, Isabel, Zayden, Beklynn, Dolton, Hailee, and Olivia.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband David, parents Paul and Hannah,
daughter Carol Smith, brother Donald Akers, and sister Virgina Akers, brother in
law Jim Attmore.
Showing will be at Greiner Funeral Home at 2005 N 13 th St, Terre Haute, IN,
47804 on June 30, 2024 from 11am until 1pm services will follow at 1pm with
burial at Roselawn Memorial Park at 7500 N Clinton St, Terre Haute, IN, 47805.
After services conclude there will be a celebration of life at 5185 E Old Maple
Ave, Terre Haute, IN, 47803.
